I'm just heartbroken.
It is not even so much the outcome -- not many had Texas in the playoff before the year started -- but I'm just going to miss this team and this season.
I walked out of Bryant-Denny Stadium admidst shell shocked Alabama fans knowing that this year was going to be special.
And I walked out of the Cotton Bowl not upset but confident that this team had moxie and would finish out the regular season undefeated.
I saw a pissed off bunch take care of business against Iowa State and Texas Tech and watched a resolute bunch pull off wins in Houston and Fort Worth.
And now, because a sixth-year Heisman finalist played out of his mind for 4 hours, it is over.
Jordan Whittington is gone. Likely so is Xavier Worthy, Adonai Mitchell and JT Sanders. And Jalen Ford. And T'Vondre Sweat and Byron Murphy. Ditto Jonathan Brooks. Quinn Ewers is less likely but could be..
I have full faith in Steve Sarkisian and staff to get to the playoffs more often than not in coming seasons. Hell next year they should be back.
But I wanted this for THIS team and THESE guys.
Because they made Texas football fun again. They gave me memories that will last forever from Tuscaloosa to Arlington to New Orleans.
And in a game where they certainly didn't give it their best shot, they damn near gave us more incredible memories.
Thank you Texas Football for a hell of a ride, and thank you to all of you for allowing me to enter your brainspace each and every week.
I wish I had another one to do this week.
